A hardy begonia! This gorgeous perennial features large leaves which are olive-green with red-tints above and interesting red-veining on the undersides. Clusters of glimmering pale pink flowers open from red buds from July to October. This pretty Chinese begonia becomes a bushy 2' mound; may self-sow, but not aggressively. PSh/M-W
This begonia is a PERENNIAL! Grows to about 2' high and wide in morning sun to light shade – rich, moist soils…doesn't like to compete with greedy tree roots…Pleasing red tones to leaves and stems and pretty rose-pink flowers summer and fall – Dormant on winter!
Begonia grandis is a tuberous, clump forming perennial with a bushy mound of large, 4″ olive green leaves with red undersides. 1″ deep pink flowers bloom in pendant clusters. Hardy
A hardy Begonia?? Of course. And although it over winters from the root stock in zone 5 and possible colder, it is very late to emerge in the Spring and very easy to over plant. Preferring moist shade it'll grow up to 30" tall with pink or white flowers. Bulbils are produced in the axils and drop to the ground to sprout the following year. A colony is formed rather quickly and can be quite dramatic.
This beautiful hardy begonia has light green, nicely textured foliage with dramatically red-veined reverses. In fall it is topped with bright candy pink flowers which last almost until frost. A great plant in combination with ferns and hostas and for colour in the fall shade garden.
A unique and very hardy species with succulent stems to 18", often spreading by means of stem bulbils. Ours are predominately pink with a few whites, grandis is a tuberous species native to China. Garden visitors are always amazed that it is actually hardy with no protection. ZONE 5
Begonia grandis is a very tropical looking plant most people consider Begonias to be extremely temperamental but this species is hard as nails and very easy to grow. It can grow just about anywhere it seems part to full shade and in sun. It spreads easily and makes a large mat usually 3 to 4 feet wide or larger in time and up to 2 feet tall. The leaves are green like pink veins. The flowers are pink and it can put on a pretty good show all year long. If you are growing hardy tropicals it is a great addition to the northern tropical garden. Hardy zone 5 and up.
Fully hardy begonia can be grown outdoors through most of the country. Stems and back of leaves are red along with veins in leaves. Pink and white flowers bloom in drooping clusters in late summer and fall. Grows 2-3' tall. Excellent shade plant to mix with hostas, ferns, and similar.

Yes indeed it is a hardy Begonia. Hardy if you plant it in the ground - it won't be happy with you if you let it freeze it in its pot. Good soil that retains moisture in shade to filtered light and everyone will be happy. Dormant in winter and coming back from tubers in early summer.
