    Eutrochium maculatum 'Gateway' is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with green foliage. In summer pink flowers emerge. Attracts bees and butterflies making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun and even moisture water. Does well in rich and well-drained soil.

    Eupatorium maculatum 'Gateway' from the Atropurpureum Group is an outstanding, long-flowering, late-blooming Joe-Pye weed. It offers a more compact, shorter and bushier form with tighter and thicker, 8 inch wide, corymb-like panicle flower heads of mauve-pink. Fragrant too! It will grow to 4-6 feet in height with a 2-3 foot spread. Low maintenance and trouble-free. Great in the middle to back of the border and in naturalistic or meadow plantings providing height and long bloom. Pollinator attractor, especially bees and butterflies. Deer and rabbit resistant. A Canadian native from Ontario to Newfoundland.

    In late spring, 'Gateway's vigorous shoots burst through the mulch. Wine-red stems develop large green coriaceous leaves, lending mass to the middle or back of the border. The dense, broad flower clusters bloom in a lavender-purple that's both strong and soft. This uniquely muted shade feels like fall, and blends well with other late bloomers. Try it with Rudbeckia or Aster cordifolius.

    Joe Pye Weed. This is a good large-flowered and fairly compact (at 6') selection that rocks the border in mid to late summer. Big 10" pom-poms of dark reddish pink clustered flowers atop nice foliage on strong stems. Loves a rich damp soil where it can make big clumps.
