Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This species has a huge native range across North America, from Alberta all the way to Mexico. While much variation occurs between local forms, all of them are 'many spined' (polyacantha) and make excellent ornamental plants. This form has been a good grower for me showing excellent resistance to cold and wet. Pads are a bit smaller than some forms, but with heavier spines. The deep pink flowers are outstanding! As with all hardy cacti, it will appreciate excellent drainage such as in a raised bed of gritty stuff. Not sure about hardiness but -20 °F or below seems likely.
