Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This form of Yucca whipplei is rarely seen in cultivation, but it is very cool. It grows into a large, dense mound with many small rosettes of prickly leaves, looking like nothing so much as one of the South American Puyas (but with just one spine per leaf, at the tip!) Also, instead of dying after flowering, it will continue to live indefinitely. Although it is found in drier areas than Y. whipplei subsp. whipplei, I don't doubt that it will be suitable for the Pacific Northwest given excellent drainage. This collection from the Tehachapi, California area should be hardy to 5 °F or lower.
