Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This bog plant from Chile needs little introduction, with its giant prickly leaves to 6' tall, its visual impact is unique and unrivalled by any other plant. This form has wider leaves than usual; I'm not sure if it has hybridized with G. manicata or if it is just a variant of G. chilensis. It likes full sun and soil that is constantly wet, preferably with cool water. It is root hardy to at least 5 °F if protected with mulch. I won't ship this species back east during the heat of summer or it will get roasted and die.
