Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Wonderful, large evergreen shrub, upright to 20 ft tall over time x 6-8 ft wide, with large, glossy green leaves and, in late summer-early autumn, large, handsome, fragrant white flowers. A naturally occurring hybrid of two Chilean species, E. glutinosa and E. cordifolia, these enjoy bright light in part shade with regular summer water. Accepting of somewhat heavy soils. Easily frost hardy in USDA zone 8.
Late flowering with large white flowers. Columnar.
This evergreen tree has jagged margins on the leaves that make an attractive plant let alone the 2” white flowers in late July – August. A wonderful tree from Vancouver, BC. to San Francisco.
Eucryphia - nymansensis 'Nymansay' This has long been grown here in the NW but still not seen enough. Narrow evergreen (except in coldest winters) perfect for between houses or against a tall wall. Summer bloom with 2" quite beautiful white scented flowers. What's not to like? Occasional summer water.
Probably the best-known of the Eucryphias, this could perhaps be called the queen of all flowering evergreen trees. From late summer to early fall, at a time when few flowering trees are doing their thing, this tree is covered completely in large, anemone-like, white flowers. The dark green, compound leaves are unique in shape and make the plant quite interesting even out of bloom. I often see this sold as a “shrub” in nurseries, but in fact it is a vigorous plant that can easily reach tree size in the Northwest in a sheltered spot and with a generous supply of moisture. One specimen in Bremerton is 60' tall and wide with numerous smooth trunks: give it some space! Can be grown in an open woodland, but might bloom better in full sun if moisture is adequate. Hardy to 10 °F.
