Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A blight resistant form of Chinquapin, 5-10' tall with green leaves and silvery undersides. A native of the Southeast. Yummy delicious nuts in the fall, preceded by beautiful, thin bottlebrush like blooms in clusters. In school, I always knew when the Chinquapins were ripe - the kids that lived in the country always brought them to school and somehow some of the hulls always managed to end up on the hall floors as they sneaked a few going to their next class!

Diminutive stature (20-25 ft.)compared to monarch C. dentata that used to dominate Eastern forests before it succumbed to blight. This species is blight resistant, and easily identified by its silvery undersides on the foliage. Native to the Southeastern states.
