Nursery contributed plant descriptions

From the moist forests of New Zealand comes this very attractive and surprisingly adaptable shrub or small tree. The evergreen, undulating lime-green foliage overwhelms the drear of winter with a feeling of lushness and life. Black stems also contrast splendidly with the leaves. The flowers, though insignificant, exude a very pleasing fragrance, and, interestingly, the roots have a very strong, sweet fragrance. Sometimes the whole plant is slightly fragrant! Often seen as a shrub, over time it may make a tree of 25' or more. Although it comes from rainforest, it will thrive on any well drained soil and will even tolerate dry shade to some degree. Plant alongside a purple-leafed Phormium for a spectacular combination! Hardy to 10 °F.
