The foliage is green splashed with yellow and very cheerful on this evergreen, 6-8 ft, dogwood relation from New Zealand. Spring flowers are tiny and yellow -- also cheerful. Best in full sun or afternoon shade with regular summer water. Makes a bright screen or garden accent. Frost hardy to 15F, mid USDA zone 8 with leanish soil and a chance to harden off in early autumn or in an especially protected spot. Also does well in pots with indoor winter protection.

Commonly known as Variegated Wire Bush, this New Zealand native is grown for its brightly variegated leaves sparsely displayed on somewhat twisted and contorted silvery branches. Can reach 6-8' where hardy, but as a container subject it will take some time to reach that. We love how it looks in the fall with its unpredictable habit.

New Zealand, full sun, some protection in the valley. In ground or potted. Protect from hard frost?

Just a great foliage plant and well suited for milder gardens like Seattle. This is carefree evergreen that tolerates some dry and looks dynamite in a container. If you do grow it in a container, I would worry about the roots freezing in winter so drag it in. Minute yellow flowers.

Here's a fun little evergreen shrub from New Zealand with wiry stems, yellow and grey variegated leaves and a contorted growth habit. If you're really lucky you might get little yellow flowers. It's easy to please on well drained soil in sun, and can handle moderately dry conditions as well as irrigated situations. It is also superb in a container combined with purple and blue foliaged plants of different textures. Hardy to around 10 - 15 °F once established.
