Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Rare and pretty all year, this 4-6' evergreen offers foliage that emerges chocolate-purple before becoming a glossy deep-green, and small clusters of white flowers that become bright-red fall-through-winter berries. S/M
Handsome and rare evergreen viburnum from southern China. Burnished leaves emerge dark purple, turning a dark, shiny green upon maturity. Flowers appear in late spring in rounded clusters of white with purple anthers. Crimson fruit follows and last through the winter, good cheer for people and birds. A medium shrub, to 4-6 ft tall x 3-5 ft wide at maturity. Best in full to part sun with average summer water. Frost hardy in USDA zone 8.
If you're one of those people who thinks Viburnums are all boring, you are nearly correct, but not quite. This semi-evergreen species offers the interesting feature of glossy leaves with rich reddish-purple new growth, which is especially noticeable on young plants. We haven't actually tried this, but it might have potential as a border plant, cut back hard annually just to get the brightly colored new growth. Left to itself the it may reach 6' producing flattened sprays of white flowers. As with most Viburnums it is adaptable and easy to grow in sun or part shade. Hardy to at least 5 °F.
