Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Very desirable species from damp alpine sites with silvery heart-shaped leaves. A very shrubby tree which keeps its branches to the base making it perfect for hedges; variable growth from 20-60', juvenile foliage is white and waxy with very pretty purple tints. The older leaves are willowy and usually only appear at the crown; tolerates a wide ranges of soils from dry to wet; good honeybee forage and deliciously scented leaves when crushed. S/M-D-W
Columnar evergreen tree to 60'. While many eucalypts are noted for their silvery, rounded juvenile foliage, this Tasmanian species is truly exceptional. The leaves are not perfectly rounded, but, as the name suggests, heart-shaped, very silvery, and rather large. But, unlike most eucalypts, as the tree matures and grows tall, the juvenile foliage is retained throughout the life of the tree, forming a shimmering column of silvery branches over time. For best results, this species will appreciate a moist situation in full sun. Hardy to 10 °F or lower when mature, but protect it from hard frosts in its first winter.
