    Araucaria angustifolia is an evergreen conifer tree with green foliage. Attracts birds. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and even moisture - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Adapts to various soil conditions. Does well in average, clay, gritty, rich and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant, humidity tolerant and verticillium wilt resistant.

    From the surprisingly frosty highlands of Brazil comes this stunning monkey puzzle relative. However, in contrast to the monkey puzzle's characteristic dark dome of stiff, hanging, armed, whiplike branches, this tree has a much more open habit, with brighter green color and more upright branches. It also grows more quickly than monkey puzzle, and it is much better adapted to the heat of the South (one thrives in the Atlanta Botanic Garden). In the Pacific Northwest, it will thrive in a sunny spot, enduring winter cold with ease as long as it is allowed to dry out for a time in late summer. It is the second hardiest species of Araucaria, tolerating at least 5 °F once established. Rare.
