Zn 7. Compact white flowers tinged pink
A super floriferous, compact Manzanita, slow growing to 3-4’ high and wide; late winter bloom of pale pink buds opening to white dangling bells almost hides the foliage… fabulous winter nectar source for hungry hummers! Lovely as a specimen, wonderful massed as at all ground cover on a dry slope. This is one of the few Manzanitas that will tolerate an annual shearing to reduce size. Cooper red berries provide bird fodder. Sun, dry, well-drained soil.
This Manzanita comes from Santa Barbara Botanic Garden. The plant gets 3-4' tall and wide. The white flowers appear after pink buds in late winter. Does not need water after plant is established.
This A. hookeri cross is among the easiest in cultivation growing about 3' to 4' in height and width, densely held small green foliage, contrasting well with dark red stems and masses of white flowers often late Autumn through early Spring, a definite pollinator magnet. Excellent bank cover or spiller, full sun to lightly dappled shade, good drainage though tolerant of heavy soil, able to handle a bit more summer water than others. USDA Zone 7.
This vigorous and easily grown manzanita has a distinctive, fine textured look with even smaller pointed green leaves than the other species. In spring it is covered with masses of tiny white bell-shaped flowers. The smooth bark is a rich light brownish-red. It may eventually reach 5' tall and 7' wide. This cultivar has been found to have excellent resistance to leaf spots and diseases, and may be grown in areas with high winter precipitation as well as drier regions. Hardy to 0 - 5 °F.
