A little freaky when it comes to blooms as the common name indicates, the bottlebrush is only flowery on one side. Hummingbird attracting feathery red stamen bundle flowers appear in early-Spring blooming through Summer contrasted by soft, 1" grey-green, evergreen needle like foliage. Great for cutting! A native to Western Australia, it's not picky about quite a few things: coastal winds, salt spray, sand, clay, dry, moist, Summer drought. It's a toughie! Growing to 6-8' high & wide it's easily prunable (best done after flowering). Fine silvery texture makes it a beautiful hedge, windbreak or screening option. Avoid over fertilizing.
Callistemon cousin with bright red flowers fused into one plane! To 4' x 6', 22 °F, containers. Western Australia.
