    Callistemon sp. [not brachyandrus] is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with green foliage. In spring and summer cream flowers emerge followed by brown fruit. Attracts bees and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun and regular - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer. Adapts to various soil conditions. Does well in average, clay, gritty and well-drained soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant.

    Sometimes I get a plant and it doesn't match its description. Here is one such case: purchased as Callistemon brachyandrus, it has grown into something with much broader leaves and paler flowers than that species is supposed to have. What it is, I'm not sure – but I thought it was interesting enough to be worth propagating, since the flower color is unique, and it is very hardy. Cream flowers in late spring or early summer are barely tinged with pink. It has a spreading habit and is very vigorous and easy to grow in full sun on any soil. Hardy to about 10 °F.
