Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Primula sieboldii is an heirloom Japanese Primrose creating tidy colonies by self sowing. Showy, late Spring flower clusters rise just above the crinkle green foliage. Colors range from pink, crimson, purple to white. Easy to grow in shady, well-drained, cool, moist soil with moderate watering and an occasional feeding. Use in shady borders or a woodland garden.
A cult has formed around these Primroses in Japan and even in the US, a Society has been formed to disseminate information, trade seeds and share new strains and cultivars. Probably one of the most carefree Primroses to grow, I grow it in every imaginable condition from full sun to full shade and they do equally as well. 3- 6" plants with 12" flowers spikes of varying colors from whites to soft pinks and everything between. Fun!
An elegant member of the cortusoides group from Japan and the surrounding mainland, sieboldii is hardy, and one of the best in its section, lovely in a woodland setting. The Japanese have developed a wonderful range of color forms. They will self-sow, and a woods naturalized with them is a remarkable sight; our plants are from Jim Briggs. ZONE 5
This native of moist meadows and woodland in Japan produces rosettes of downy, pale-green leaves, to 8" long from which come 12” stalks bearing umbels of 2 to 15 flowers, pink to lilac-purple or crimson with white eyes.
