This beautiful conifer from the northeast United States is the state tree of both Maine and Michigan. Its straight, fine-grained growth makes it a cabinet maker's delight! This very tall (50- 80' in cultivation and over 200' in the wild), fast-growing tree is also a popular ornamental with its soft to the touch, 2-5" blue-green needles in bundles of 5. Prefers cool, humid climates and cannot tolerate air pollution. S/M-GDr
The Eastern White Pine is a fast growing species native to the Eastern U.S. that is not only extremely cold hardy but also thrives in warmer climates. They transplant easily and grow in a wide range of conditions, however they grow best in well drained soils. Eastern White Pine trees can be sheared far more effectively than other species and with regular pruning can be kept as a neat hedge with straight edges.
Compared to the closely related Western White Pine (Pinus monticola), the Eastern species has a much more open habit with more widely spaced branches. Both species tend to have a wide, spreading branch structure, though not as much as the Sugar Pine (Pinus lambertiana) which is another Western native White Pine species.

This is a large, beautiful conifer that is pyramidal in youth, then develops more horizontal and ascending branches as it matures. It has long, slender light green to bluish-green needles. The bark starts out smooth and dark green and matures to fissured rectangular blocks on older trees. This graceful tree will make a lovely addition to any large area such as a park or large yard, or can even be sheared into a hedge. Valuable timber species for softwood lumber. Growth Rate fast, 12"+ annually
Blue green needles with white tips appear powder blue. Deer resistant. Zones 4-9
Growing to 80' by 20', this conifer is very fast-growing. Very beautiful for color and texture, the bark will become deeply furrowed and ridged. Mature trees are plume like in outline and composed of several horizontal and ascending branches. Grows best in fertile, moist, well drained soils. Really likes sunny locations.
