    Callistemon subulatus is a broadleaf evergreen shrub with green foliage. In spring and summer red flowers emerge followed by brown fruit. Attracts bees and hummingbirds making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens. Grows well with sun and occasional - low water. Drought tolerant once established. Prefers to be dry in summer. Adapts to various soil conditions. Does well in clay and gritty soil. A good option if you're seeking something heat tolerant, humidity tolerant, pollution tolerant, seaside / salt tolerant and wind tolerant.

    The large reddish-violet blooms makes this bottlebrush special. Frost resistant to at least -5?C though in a protected spot with a little mulch it should be hardier. Full to part sun. Best in well-drained soil.

    If you've been fooled before, I offer the real subulatus, a plant with a long history of cultivation in the Seattle area. It has a semi-weeping, spreading habit, and a profusion of crimson brushes in late spring, making it very showy! It will flower best in full sun with not too much irrigation and is generally cold hardy to about 10 °F. Spreading to 4' x 7' . Easy.
