Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Seed for this very special strain was collected along a roadside in Thailand, where Buddhist alters are ceremonially adorned with colorful marigold flowers. This strain has especially long roots, but not literally: its ancestors were likely imported from the Netherlands & long before that the original wild species was discovered in South America. I can certainly appreciate its almost universal appeal – its bright cheerful color & sweet scent are so intertwined with my memories of Summer warmth! An African-type (though not from Africa) it will grow 3’ in height & 2’ wide (with good rich soil, sun & average water) & is very unusual for its 3-4” semi-double blooms with a cushion-like center. Though this golden yellow flowered strain is a bit variable (sometimes an orange will appear!) I think you will enjoy its wildness. Great thanks to landscape designer Pat Brodie, of Santa Barbara for gifting us the seed!
