Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This statuesque plant is great for bloom in the Winter. The green sword shaped leaves get about 2’ tall & the elegant flower spikes grow well over the height of the leaves to 3’- 3.5’ tall. The 1.5” wide flowers are orange & last for several days. There are 20 or more flowers per spike. As the plant matures, it will put out many spikes per plant. The flowers occur in Winter (Nov-Jan) & make for a nice splash of color during the dreary days of Winter. They also make good cut flowers. Watsonia zeyheri is native to marshy & sandy parts of South Africa. It can tolerate water in the Summer but probably wouldn’t like heavy, wet clay. Likes mild Winters.
