Nursery contributed plant descriptions

NEW cultivar of an OLD perennial bred for commercial flower production…big & beautiful purple frothy flower heads to 6" across are softly fragrant on a compact 3' mound of stems. Stems have purple hued leaves and flowers bloom continuously all summer and fall. Full sun in the north and on the coast and part shade in hot sun areas; regular water and loamy well drained soils will make this plant happy! Ignored by both snails and slugs…go figure! Excellent cut flowers!
Butterflies love to nectarsip from umbels & purple is said to be their favorite color. Here we have both! Large, lush and lightly scented, 4” umbels appear fluffy soft due to tiny white “pins” emerging from each little flower. Blooming Summer to Fall (with dead-heading), these butterfly sweetshops are held atop branching stems and gorgeous, darkest purple-black foliage. Combine with black leaved Pennisetum glaucum & lime green strawberry, Fragraria vesca ‘Golden Alexandra’. Wonderful in a corner or mid to back of border. Rich, shiny foliage is densely borne making a compact bush up to 3' tall by 3' wide. It loves part shade (to full sun by the coast) and loamy soil. SNAIL PROOF!
