Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The dusky purple-brown fruit have a rich sweet flavor prized by gardeners all over. A good balance of juice and meaty flesh, they keep producing loads of small tomatoes all summer.
This is the first black cherry tomato which has the famously rich flavor of dark tomatoes like ‘Cherokee Purple’, but is cherry sized. Smaller tomatoes are great as one-bite tomatoes, but most importantly they do not need a long season to ripen, in this case only 65 days. So ‘Black Cherry’ should ripen even for coastal gardeners in California. It is indeterminate which means it will keep growing up as long as you let it (10’ has been reported) so provide a stake, 5-6’ cage or trellis- or a lot of space to sprawl. Pick the sunniest spot in your garden & if possible, fill a 15” hole with some compost before planting the seedling. After the plant has established itself, water when the top 3” soil has dried out. Too much irrigation can cause disease & result in tomatoes without much flavor.
