Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Better known as Mexican Shellflower, Tigridias have become popular Summer blooming plants in gardens all over the world. The flowers are spectacular & often 4-6” across. While they open in the morning & individually only last a day, they are produced over a period of several weeks. Most commercially available strains are strongly colored & blotched. This unusual variant is pure white with a light yellow center. Tigridias are Summer growing bulbs & will become 2.5’ tall. Plant 4-8” apart in well-drained soil & water regularly during the growth & blooming season. When the leaves start turning yellow, stop watering & let the plant go dormant. In cold Winter areas, the bulbs can be dug up & stored like Gladiolus.
