Thunbergia natalensis is a broadleaf deciduous perennial with green foliage. In summer blue flowers emerge. Grows well with sun - mostly sun and even moisture - regular water. Does well in rich and well-drained soil.
Beautiful & rare! I don’t know why this plant hasn’t been in cultivation sooner. This lovely perennial grows to 3’ with unbranched stems that grow from a woody base. The large flowers have pale blue faces & yellow throats. They show up well against the dark green leaves. Flowers all summer. Native to the high Summer rainfall areas of South Africa, this plant appreciates some extra water in the Summer. Found along forest margins as well as in the bush & grasslands. It can take sun or shade. It needs more water in full sun. It also likes good drainage. Plant in a raised bed or on a slope if you have heavy clay. You can cut this plant to the ground if it needs rejuevenation. Plant en masse for a stunning groundcover or use as a specimen plant.
