Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Solandra maxima has shiny leaves on a rather fast growing upright plant...producing hugh intensely fragrant cup like blossoms in fall and winter...a real showpiece
8" long fragrant golden trumpets with purple veins are borne from winter through spring on this large scrambling tropical climber. A very unusual and easily grown specimen plant that is quite tolerant of seaside conditions. An excellent choice for large trellises and arbors or as an espalier.
In the case of this vine, “large flowered” is practically an understatement. Try “Humongous Flowered” - in fact, I've seen more than one person respond to the plant in this way: “OMG is that thing carnivorous? Is it real? Is it going to eat me?” If you have a large stretch of fence (30-40' or so) that you'd like to cover with something very showy & tropical looking, here's your plant! It's also perfect for arbors, patio covers, gazebos – anywhere you can provide strong support! Individual flowers are up to 8” across, cup-shaped & colored golden yellow with deep maroon stripes. Peak bloom is Spring through early Summer. Hardy into the high 20's, but protect young plants, as an established plant will be more likely to recover from frost than a new start. Native to Mexico & Central America. Evergreen where hardy.
