Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Not just a flamboyant figwort, but THE MOST flamboyant figwort! When whoever in charge of the genus Scrophularia sat down to design Scrophularia calliantha, they definitely broke the mold. HUGE (well, for a figwort) 1/2” fiery orange & red blooms in big 6”- 1’ clusters bloom over Spring & Summer on 5’ loosely branching stems. Grows to 4’ wide & 5’ high. It’s said they prefer a little bit of Winter dryness, so provide a bit of extra drainage if you’re concerned. Leaves are large with a rough appearance. Our mother plants have been super robust – it’s hard to see what might put a damper on this plant’s cool. Endemic to the Canary Islands where it is listed as critically endangered.
