Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A rare beauty for the dry garden. I daresay it may be my favorite Salvia of all! Rose tinged bracts & copious amounts of large lavender flowers make this a beaut & its love of dry sites makes it a worthy plant for California. In addition, the herbal properties of the plant are in step with those of S. officinalis & makes it a handy addition to your apothecary kit. It’s also from Crete, so a shoe-in with Annie, who, if you hadn’t heard, is very Greek & proud of it. Grows 3’ tall & 4’ wide, with spikes of many pitcher-mouthed 1” blooms in June & July. Leaves are a soft gray with undulating edges & the whole plant is pleasantly aromatic. Clay tolerant, just don’t water heavily & in general I would recommend NOT watering the plant after it is established, except for very occasional deep watering. Cut back after flowering to maintain compactness.
