Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A medium evergreen sub-shrub for sun or part shade. Vivid orange-red flowers, with black bracts, are produced on long slender spikes from mid winter to late spring. Cut back almost to ground level at the end of flowering, by the next flowering season it will be a dense shrub again. An exotic looking and highly desirable plant.

This heavily blooming Salvia from Mexico is gorgeous in bloom! The 16” long flower spikes appear in late Summer & continue through Winter, covering the plant with flowers. The blooms are red-orange with rich maroony-black calyxes. Give this one plenty of room as it grows to 10’ tall & wide. Protect from strong winds. This Salvia also needs a little bit more moisture than others & isn’t drought tolerant. Hardy to 20 °F but not ideal for zones below 9b since freezes would knock it back just as it is at the height of its bloom. Hummingbird magnet!
