Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Great for containers! A smaller species, but very easy and fun to grow, and tolerant of about any climate and soil, but it is only hardy to about 22 °F in a wet climate. But if you are going to lug something indoors to protect it from frost, ditch that Tibouchina and plant this! Why don't references mention the fantastic hanging yellow flowers held on panicles to about 5' tall? For me it bloomed in a 2 gallon pot.
A Puya for a small garden! And, happily, the quickest to bloom – in about a year after planting. Elegant, flaring, lime green bells held in fuzzy purple-grey calyxes – up to 15 per stem – are nicely displayed on stiff upright 3’ stems. Compact and carefree foliar rosettes like a mop-like haircut to only 10-12” tall and 20” across. Bolivian native. Refreshingly unusual in any well drained garden or container! And like all Puyas, it’s very tough, drought tolerant, deer proof and attracts hummingbirds! Hardy to 20 degrees.
