Strange & stellar! This is certainly the most unusual Primrose we have found - we were so excited to see a green, striped, purplish black primrose come up in the mix & even more thrilled when this very unique primrose started to mutate. On some bloom spikes it’s simply a single black & green striped flower & on some it’s double. On still others it has a hose-in-hose flower configuration (where you see a flower emerge from the center of the other flower) & even stranger, some blooming spikes will produce another set of blooms from the center of the old flower (there is a very old heirloom Bellis perennis cultivar called ‘Prolifera’ that does this & it is also referred to as the “Hens & Chicks Flower”). Blooms are displayed 10-20 to a cluster atop numerous 5” stems & thick, almost succulent, snail resistant foliage. Evergreen and blooms 12 months a year along the coast, Spring thru Fall in harsher climes. Culture is the same as for all auriculas – rich soil, bright shade, regular water, loose soil. Grows 8-12” in height & width, shorter when not in bloom.
