Nursery contributed plant descriptions

“Poblano” or “Ancho”-type peppers like ‘Mulato Isleno’ are relatively mild & very popular in South-Western or Mexican cooking. The 2’ tall plants produce glossy dark peppers 3” wide at the shoulders & 6” long. The color changes from green to almost black as the pepper matures. This ‘Mulato’ variant gets particularly dark & is softer & sweeter in flavor. After roasting & peeling, use stuffed or in Mole. Also good dried. Grow the plant 14-16” apart in full sun & add compost or manure before planting. Water deeply & evenly or the flowers will drop.
