Nursery contributed plant descriptions

This 3'-5' tall annual has foliage and flowers that smell like pineapple, velvety leaves that beckon your touch, and a profusion of yellow daisy flowers in the late summer. Foliage and stems are covered with sticky, aromatic glandular hairs. Goldfinches are especially fond of tarweed seeds. Plant is abundant on dry slopes and grassy meadows from 3000' to 8000', and ranges from San Diego County to Oregon, blooming from late spring through summer when few other native annuals are flowering. Important nectar plant and aboriginal seed food.
Don’t pass up this native annual because it looks like a plain yellow daisy in the photo. It’s not! First of all it’s 3’ tall and bushy. Second, its foliage and flowers are stongly pineapple scented! Third, it’s 1.5” flowers pop out in mid-Summer when many of our native blooms are long gone. Attractive velvety leaves too. What’s more – it self-sows reliably for new free plants every year.
