Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Delicious eye candy! ‘Mascara’ is a luscious red oak-leaf type lettuce that’s slow to bolt & mild in flavor. Some “ornamedibles” are more ornamental than edible, but this one has taste & beauty – you can’t go wrong! Tolerant of more heat than most lettuce & it holds its color in the Summer sun, too. Makes a loose head of dark, wavy-edged leaves to 1’ across. Plant 6” apart in a well-fertilized bed or container or plant closer & thin later. You can harvest by pulling/cutting the entire plant or pull off outer leaves as needed.
