Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Bred by Henry Eckford, & introduced in 1907, 'Annie' has the excellent distinction of having both a strong fragrance & an unusually vibrant colored cerise flower. Unlike modern Sweet Peas, she's also exceptionally heat tolerant. I planted mine late in the season & didn't expect much, but my plants bloomed well into Summer & the blooms did not fade or falter in the heat! In form, the flowers are smaller & simple, like all of the old fashioned varieties that we prefer, so no frills. Makes the best cut flowers & reseeds! Rich soil yields best results. Grows to 5' or more, depending on the support provided. Plant in Fall through Spring in mild winter climates, Spring only where the ground freezes. She can be planted as late as April or May.
