Nursery contributed plant descriptions

From the slopes of Mt. Kenya comes this new to cultivation cultivar of a very rare, easy to grow, & practically impossible to come by Impatiens species. Candy red stems offset lovely spring green leaves, & the flowers have symmetrically arranged petals that look perfectly like innocent butterflies - so demure in contrast with the flowers displayed by some of the other species we grow, which in comparison seem quite, well, naughty. ‘Grimshaw’ is exactly like the straight species of Impatiens hoehnellii, but is twice as big in all aspects, growing 1’ high & spreading by rooting along the stems at the soil surface. The flowers are at least an inch wide, & the color fades & darkens depending on the weather, with cooler temperatures evoking deeper color. We’ve found this one to be about as cold hardy as Impatiens arguta, but without further research, I’d only warrant it as hardy within the confines of Zones 9 & up. Rich soil & a cool placement in the garden, as well as average to regular water are what this one wants!
