Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Here is another great Impatiens that we’ve gotten from Derick Pittman, a.k.a. Mr. Impatiens. This Impatiens has beautiful ruby red flowers to 1” long. It produces lots of blooms in late Spring & Fall, & fewer in hotter & colder weather. The plant has nicely puckered leaves with attractive red petioles (leaf stems). It grows about 2 1/2’ tall & wide in a pot, slightly larger in the ground. Make sure & plant in a well-drained amended soil & top dress with compost for best performance. Native to tropical Africa. Like its cousin Impatiens tinctoria, this species prefers a cooler climate like San Francisco – hot, humid zones not so much! Note: Generally, species Impatiens prefer cool Summer climates with little frost, and suffer in areas with too much heat and humidity!
