Nursery contributed plant descriptions

One of “Mr.Impatiens” exclusive hybrids, ‘Big Red’ is a cross between Impatiens bicaudata & one of the Impatiens ‘African Orchids’ series. ‘Big Red’ is, well, BIG – to 3’ tall, multi-branching out to 2’ across or so with rich, emerald green foliage well offsetting the multitude of curious red & pink hooded blooms. Blooms more & longer than the regular species! In fact, the plant will stay in bloom if the cold doesn’t stop it short. Perennial here along the coast or in frost-free climates. Rich, composty soil is best. Great in large pot where you can appreciate the thick succulent trunk that will form over time. Perennial in USDA Zones 10-11, annual elsewhere. This would make a fascinating & bizarre houseplant!
