Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The Blue Lady strain is characterized by rich, lusty, bluey purples. The Lady Series is a good entry level series of separate colour strains. This series offers good colour depth, large flowers, and vigorous plants. The Lady Series comes from Gisela Schmiemann of Cologne, Germany. Deer resistant. Perennial Plant of the Year 2005.
Delicious, deep blue-purple flowers are 2” across, nicely rounded & beautifully contrasted with a crown of golden stamens. Outward facing, they rise up nicely above the large & lustrous, rich green (& evergreen) foliage, blooming Winter thru early Spring. The foliage forms a good sized, bushy clump to 2’ across & remains attractive year around, making a nice shade groundcover under trees or near the front porch. Highly drought tolerant & deer proof, native to the Mediterranean, “Lenten Rose” does especially well along our California coast, as it does not require cold Winter temps. Average to good, composty, garden soil with a topdressing of compost once a year for best show.
