Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Very cool South African bulb grown from seed we received from Harry Hay many years ago. Now that I think about it, these should cost a lot more - oh well. Broad strap leaves and tall stems bearing pendulous flowers of softly muted green. Truly regal.
I love green flowers! I know they aren’t the easiest flowers to spot in the garden but when you stumble across them they seem extra special. Galtonia has many pendant, lantern-like, green bells on tall flower stems. The leaves are large & strappy and loved by snails, so do snail bait around this one. Grows 3-4’ tall and is from moist Montana cliffs of the Drakensberg area of South Africa. It gets summer rainfall there, so it is fine in irrigated gardens. Likes well-drained soil. Grows easily in the garden or keep in a pot for close viewing.
