Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Listed as rare & endangered, found only in the dunes of Monterey & its presence there is endangered by sand mining & beach development. Yet, in spite of the extreme conditions of its native habitat (sand & salt), it has proven itself very adaptable in the garden. With tight clusters of green rosettes it has the appearance of a succulent & is best used at the edges of beds or in rock gardens where it will not be overwhelmed by taller plants. It is also a great candidate for a CA native plant green roof. If happy, it will keep adding rosettes but will still stay 3-4” tall & wide. It flowers brilliant yellow March-June, followed by interesting round seed capsules. May reseed. Named after Vern Yadon, the former director of the Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History.
