Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Beginning as small green fruits with dark green veins, this ornamental variety matures to 2-3" fruits of yellow and rich orange with the same distinct striping. A heat lover, start indoors and transplant outdoors when the soil is warm. Harvest fruits in late summer for beautiful autumnal arrangements.
Eggplant 'Striped Toga' is a stunning ornamental eggplant that can also be used as a vegetable. The fruits are 1” wide by 3” long & striped, initially in two toned green, then changing to two toned orange. The fruits are strongly flavored, but generally not bitter & can be used like any other eggplant. As an ornamental, you can enjoy the bush (2-3' tall & wide) in the garden or in a container. You can also use the stems & fruits in fresh or dry arrangements. Plant the plants 2-3' apart in the sunniest part of your garden. Keep them well fertilized (add lime if you know your soil is low in calcium) & keep well watered.
