Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Most egg plants like heat & need a long season to mature, but 'Apple Green' is extra early (62-70 days from transplant) & is a choice variety for cool-season areas. The plants are 2-3' tall with an upright habit & very pretty purple flowers. The fruits are oval, 4 oz. average weight, 3" long by 2-21/2" diameter. Don't wait for them to turn dark purple because these eggplants are indeed light apple green when ready. Pick immediately if they turn creamy yellow & the glossy surface turns dull. 'Apple Green' does not require peeling, & the flesh is mild & non-acid. Plant 18-24" apart in the sunniest part of your garden, preferably near flowers to encourage bee pollination. They are heavy feeders so fertilize & water well. Rich soil is best.
