Our favorite foxglove, for it has tall columns of bloom of gorgeous satiny violet-purple. The long-blooming spires continue flowering from late spring well into summer. A true perennial. Self-sows. Poisonous.
Foxglove. Nice little perennial native to Portugal and Spain. This has nice gray-green somewhat felty leaves and sizeable sugar pink flowers on short stems. Loves our balmy Mediterranean climate here in Port Townsend. Best viewed with a glass of rustic Rioja in hand.
Raspberry rose-colored flowers in early summer are carried over a trim mat of furry leaves. This cousin to the familiar foxglove is perennial, and virtually unknown in cultivation. Thrives in a variety of sites and soils. From Spain. Perennial. Xeriscape. Ordinary garden loam. USDA zones 4b-9 (up to 7,000').
Sugar-pink flowers begin to appear in early Summer, held in an elegant pendulous fashion away from the stems, making this lovely Foxglove species from Spain a real garden favorite. Dead-head for a repeat show in Fall. Downy leaves & a branching habit add to its charm. Native to the Mediterranean, Digitalis thapsi likes full sun & is perennial, not biennial. Got clay? No problem, this beauty isn’t fussy about soil. To 2’ tall & 1’ wide.
