Nursery contributed plant descriptions

White cucumbers have been in commerce since 1700 (perhaps before) & became popular in Europe & Asia. In the USA, the preference was for dark green varieties, but now the whites are getting more attention. Cucumber ‘Long White’ has early maturing, 6-7” long ivory white fruits with very thin skin & they do not need peeling. The flavor is sweet & juicy with a pleasant tang. Grow cucumbers in rich soil, kept moist but not soggy. Pick when the cucumbers are 1-1.5” wide & the seeds are still tender. Keep the plants well picked since maturing cucumbers will stop the production of new ones. Trellising is highly recommended & makes it much easier to spot cucumbers that are ready to eat.
