Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Dark dramatic foliage & elegant flowers! Certainly this is one of the most garden worthy hybrids around. Blooms are more similar to the wild-species Cannas (our favorites!) but slightly larger – a lovely compromise! Red & orange, ribbon like petals contrast nicely against broad, dark leaves. Like all Cannas, it tolerates high water & lots of sun, but it's a more drought tolerant & shade tolerant plant than you might guess. I lived next to a stand of Canna indica that was in almost full shade & received almost no water as well, & was doing fine, so experiment! Useful anywhere you want a fast & easy spot of topical drama – pots, borders – anywhere! Hummingbirds love the flowers! Cut back to the ground in winter to renew the foliage yearly & bait for snails. To 4' tall & spreading – average soil is fine.
