Nursery contributed plant descriptions

A precious “pocketbook plant” from Chile! Unknown in cultivation, Calceolaria filicaulis is welcome in our corner of the garden world! This species would love a moist, shady corner in a terracotta pot or at the edge of a shady bed. It loves wet feet, & could even be partially submerged! The broad leaves make basal rosettes of emerald green, from which rise long 1-2’ tall & airy stems topped with lemon yellow balloon-like blooms. So sweet! This perennial blooms FAST & can be short lived if it has too much competition, but I must say it is showy enough in year one to warrant being grown as an annual. Grows to 1’ wide with foliage to 4” or less & blooming stems to 2’ high. Rich, well drained soil is best.
