Nursery contributed plant descriptions

Once upon a time, gardeners enjoyed Calceolarias that were tall, strong, & garden worthy. Over time, Calceolarias became shorter, blobby things that bloomed quickly & were then discarded. Here’s a perennial that we hope will restore the good name of the “Pocketbook Plant” – Calceolaria cana! Delicate, airy wands of strange & beautiful 1” purple spotted “pocketbook” flowers are borne on 2’ stems during the summer months. Grey leaves form pleasing foliage rosettes to 6”. We grow ours in raised beds or pots in very well drained soil, which helps protect the plants too much Winter wet. From Chile.
