Here's an odd one for the serious Buddleja nut. From Lake Tanganyika no less, felted sage like leaves and typical Buddleja flowers; it's hardier than I would have guessed surviving unprotected and growing into a huge plant in Dick's garden.
From South Africa comes this rare, captivating & exceptionally fragrant Buddleja. 5’ tall & 4’ across, it bursts into flower in Spring, the large blooming trusses almost smothering the foliage & filling the air with the delicious scent of honey. Even if it never bloomed, this rarity is well worth a spot in the garden with its large & elegant, silvery-sage green, soft & fuzzy leaves held on velvety, light green stems. The flower color varies, purple, pink or cream with a deep orange throat. “Sagewood” is not fussy about soil or water, but looks much better with compost & some water. Cut back hard in early Spring. Can be pruned into a hedge.
