Do you have 12-15 sq ft to cover and only want one plant? How about an ugly retaining wall that could use a little razzle-dazzle spilling over it? This is your plant. Low, relatively fast growing and covered in nectar rich flowers. Problem Solved!
Here’s a spicy colored Babiana for your garden. Growing to 7-14” tall, this bulb produces abundant blooms for a long period. Flowers vary from pink-red to red to purple-red and occur in Spring. The foliage has pleats and looks quite nice. Native to areas of clay flats in South Africa, it should do fine with any clay conditions around here. It does need to go completely dry in the summer though. Will naturalize politely.
