Nursery contributed plant descriptions

The common name, also once known as Lion's Mouth, is easily understood by anyone who has pinched the throat of the flower and watched it snap shut. Plucked from the plant, it makes fanciful earings for a young girl- a fun discovery. A cottage garden classic that is best in the cooler weather of early summer and again in fall. Start indoors in February in northern areas and grow in moist, fertile organic yet well-drained soil, where they will grow and flower luxuriantly. This compact selection has midnight burgundy flowers with white throats that set off the deep color well.
Originally introduced in 1899, this wonderful heirloom Snapdragon is making a comeback! Velvety crimson lips pucker up at the ends of the bright white throat. The flowers are held on willowy stems quite unlike modern hybrids & the fab foliage is almost black! May over-winter for repeat performance.
